Step by step: Making the pug pendant

The newest item in the Robotic Cookie store is the cute pug pendant.
I decided whilst making it to take some step by step photos to show the process I go through in making it.

1. First I draw up the design on paper, scan it in and doing any editing.

2. I print and cut out the edited drawing to be used as a template.

3. I mix the colours up in polymer clay.

4. I run the clay through the pasta machine. The black for the back piece is on the thickest setting and the rest is all done on the thinnest setting.

5. I place the template on to the black clay and score and cut around it.

6. Using the template again I cut out the face in the lighter coloured clay. Scoring the image so that design imprints onto the clay.

7. I made the dark brown clay slightly darker.

8. As with the lighter clay I marked and cut out all the dark clay parts.

9. Matching up the line I put all the clay pieces together.

10. Added the eyes, nose and marked in the clay for the mouth and whiskers.

11. Mixed up some light pink clay and ran it through the pasta machine on the thinnest setting for the tongue.

12. Added an eye pin and baked in the oven.

And tadah! The final completed pendant.

And that is why you should always back up your files

Sorry for the radio silence on here so far this month. I had a bit of a mishap last week when I dropped my laptop whilst carrying it and it seems the hard drives have been damaged.
Everything else still seems it working order it just can't find the hard drives, which is made worse by my idiocy of putting off backing up all my files to my external hard drive.
Luckily I have been able to get my old laptop working but I have none of my files, images or programs apart from those I had on my Dropbox account.
Hopefully I can get the files off the hard drives and then replace them.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the giveaway, it was so lovely seeing some of the comments left about the necklaces and there seemed to be an even mix of people for the Potter Houses.

With all the problems I will probably wait until November to do another giveaway and also Fan Friday will be postponed until the laptop is fixed.

Forbes Building Craft Fair

I attended my first local craft fair on Saturday at the Forbes Building in Middlesbrough.

with additional Grandma.
We had a lovely long table which was amazing for the price paid. I quickly rushed the night before to make a display for my magnets and I'm glad because quite a few people stopped to look at them.

Beach Hut Magnets
The day in general was quite quiet and most of the stalls had very few sales (including mine) but it was a good first experience and I will probably be attending again in the coming months as I'm sure it will get a lot popular towards Christmas.

Back to the beginning: My first successful polymer clay make

Looking back on old work can be a great way to reassure yourself how much you have improved.

I remember buying a pack of white fimo and trying out making lots of different shapes with my sister. We put them in the oven and waited in anticipation. When they came out they were no longer white but a pale brown  (We obviously had the oven too hot).

A few years passed before I tried using it again. This time I bought a pack of half blocks in a variety of colours. As it was close to Red Nose Day I tried making some red nose earrings.

I got a lot of great responses to them and ended up making 10 pairs to sell at my mums work and raised £15 for the charity.

10 pairs of red noses
Getting a good reaction from one of my first real makes really inspired me to improve and continue crafting.

What was your first piece you were really proud of? I would love to see them :)

Hello and Welcome :)

Welcome to the Robotic Cookie blog! This will be a place where I share my new items and ideas, along with any other shops and pieces I find interesting. I also hope to maybe post up a few tutorials too.

I better introduce myself first :)
My name is Ash, I'm nearly 24 and I live in North East England. I am a jewellery maker and I primarily use polymer clay. I have been interested in art and creative outlets since I was very young and have a degree in Animation Design.

I started playing around with polymer clay after spotting it online and was inspired to start selling after helping a friend at one of her stalls at a comic convention.

My shop is named 'Robotic Cookie' I wanted something unique but cute and ended up drawing up a robot shaped cookie (still my logo) and Robotic Cookie was born. Although my Etsy shop was opened in July 2013 I didn't start selling there properly until January of this year.

https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/RoboticCookie

I mostly sell geek culture inspired items but I am venturing out into other areas now.

I hope you will find something interesting here and I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts on my products :)
